After several comprehensive community outreach meetings, it was clear that the City of Prairie Village and local residents wanted a redeveloped space to continue to memorialize the late Logan McCalmon and provide new opportunities for youth and adults. The trick was not only honoring his legacy but to expand on it through the thoughtful integration of skate, event, and youth space. This is being accomplished through a balance of skateable terrain that is appealing to all users and integrated landscaping highlighting native vegetation. A designated stage and event space is located directly within the skateable footprint and is highly functional for hosting events, concerts and performances and fully ridable between events. Colored concrete floor patterns, brick accents, and the inclusion of the City’s logo create an aesthetically pleasing amenity for every generation of users. We feel honored to be a part of this important legacy project.
