Using the metaphor of a city grid, the Callingwood Park Skate Plaza consists of nearly 19,500 square feet of interconnected plaza lines combined to create a network of iconic ‘spots’ spread across the virtual cityscape. Elements within the plaza are intended to span virtually all skating styles and abilities while still being true to legitimate street form. Along with a wide assortment of classic street skating ledge, block, rail and bank variations, a number of transition features modeled in the vein of famed natural urban ‘tranny’ spots like Montreal’s ‘BIG O’ and the Guadalajara NQP intersperse throughout the design. In 2010, our team was retained to design and construct a 10,000 sqft custom splash park adjacent to the plaza – see following page for splash park profile.
